The Thorne Lab is known as the Human Toxicology and Exposomics Laboratory (HTEL) and serves as the Pulmonary Toxicology Facility core for the Environmental Health Sciences Research Center. The HTEL is engaged in in vitro and in vivo animal studies of environmental risk factors for asthma and other inflammatory lung diseases, endotoxin- and glucan-induced immunomodulation, the toxicity of engineered nanomaterials, and novel methods for exposure assessment and modeling. Current work also includes research on eCigarette use and rescue and regenerative therapies following inhalation of chemical threat agents. Environmental epidemiology studies in the Thorne Lab include the AESOP Study which seeks to characterize exposures of school children to PCBs, and toxic metals. The Thorne lab collaborates with a host of other labs in the US, Canada and Europe providing bioaerosol analyses of environmental samples in support of studies of allergy and asthma, COPD, and agricultural respiratory diseases.
